Beaches

At the very heart of Townsville, between the Rockpool and Anzac Park along the Strand, is a beautiful stretch of sand often populated by sunworshippers, swimmers, walkers and creatures of many other denominations. The color of the water varies with winds, tides and currents and is often that beautiful tropical blue.

Further North and for those who wants more privacy, check out the foreshore between Rowes Bay and Cape Pallarenda along the Esplanade. Easy access and ample parking at designated points. Revegetation is ongoing and respected by those who care.

Across the water, the number of absolutely gorgeous and picturesque bays and beaches on Magnetic Island are too many to mention and for the curious to explore - you will be generously awarded. The ferry whips you across in about 20 minutes and also a great way to get that off shoreperspective of Townsville itself.

Travelling North towards Ingham and Cairns, duck off the Highway and discover Bushland Beach, Saunders Beach, Toolakea and Balgal Beach, the latter withovernight camping spot and a great stop for fish 'n chips and a couple of beers!

Heading South towards Ayr, turn off at AIMS and explore the general area of Cape Cleveland or turn down to Cungulla for a sticky beak.

Beware of marine stingers throughout the summer from November to April - they really are potential killers. Many popular beach spots have council operated stinger enclosures for those who can't stand the thought of safer swimming at waterfalls, in fresh water and chlorinated pools.
